Starting this fall, Kaua’i families will have one more elementary school option for their keiki. Alaka’i O Kaua’i Charter School will be opening its doors with grades kindergarten through fifth and will be adding an additional grade each year until it becomes a K-8th school. The project-based learning charter will be located at the beautiful Kahili Mountain Park, mauka of Kaumualii Hwy in Koloa. Check out the stunning aerial video below.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i has partnered with iLEAD Schools and will provide a comprehensive education through project-based learning. A dynamic classroom approach in which learners actively explore real-world challenges to acquire a deeper knowledge of their subjects. They will also be implementing multi-age learning (combined grades) and there will be no homework for elementary students. The school received final approval on June 28th by the Hawai’i State Charter School Commission and is set to open its doors to learners on August 28th, 2018.
Alaka’i O Kaua’i is a tuition-free school, however, the campus at Kahili Mountain Park is still in the process of finishing renovations and obtaining all supplies and furnishings needed. Any donation to the school is greatly appreciated. If you would like to learn more about Alaka’i O Kaua’i or to enroll your keiki, please visit www.alakaiokauai.org.
