Maui Weekend Events – June 28

Aloha friends! This weekend on Maui has some fun in store for us. Saturday’s race is hosted by Hawaiian and takes off from Kahului Harbor. Also on Saturday, we kick off the Makawao Stampede Festival with the town parade and country concert at Oskie Rice Arena. Celebrate King Kamehameha with a lei draping at the Grand on Friday morning. And Sunday morning, the Grand hosts the second Rainbow Brunch to honor Pride Month. Finally, the 33rd Annual Slack Key Festival will be held this Sunday afternoon at the MACC.

John M. & Kealoha Lake Regatta

I’m flying home in time for my own club, Hawaiian Canoe Club’s hosting of the John M. Lake Regatta. Race takes off from Kahului Harbor. John M. Lake is sure to be a fun event as always. Enjoy great racing and catching up with friends and family after the regatta. Check out Hawaiian Canoe Club for Race Schedule and more.

King Kamehameha Celebration and Rainbows Brunch

king kamehameha

The Grand Wailea is hosting two great events this weekend. Friday morning, celebrate the life and legacy of King Kamehameha with a lei draping at 8:00 am. Following the draping is lei making in Kilohana Cultural Resource Center from 10am – 1pm, while supplies last.

This Sunday, The Grand Wailea hosts a special Rosé and Rainbows Brunch to celebrate Maui Pride Month from 11 am – 2 pm. The brunch will feature a smoked carving station, fresh ceviche bar, oysters, snow crab, shrimp cocktail, and a complimentary glass of rosé. Proceeds will be donated to the Maui AIDS Foundation.

33rd Annual Ki Ho’alu Guitar Festival

The 33rd Annual Ki Ho’alu Festival will feature some of Hawaii’s best slack key musicians. Some of the featured artists this year include Ledward Kaapana, John Cruz, Darrell Aquino, Kevin Brown & Friends, Nāmaka Cosma-White, Stephen Inglis, Kamuela Kahoano, Dwight Kanae, Kahiau Lam-Ho, Ian O’Sullivan, Anthony Pfluke, LT Smooth & more.  Festival takes place this Sunday afternoon at the MACC’s Yokouchi Pavilion and A&B Amphitheater. Gates open at 2:30 and show starts at 3:00 pm. This is a free event. Festival will be livestreamed on the MACC’s FB page and YouTube Channel. Local artists will be on site showcasing their crafts for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and set up on the hill to enjoy the music to the most. Food and beverage available for purchase throughout the event. This is one of my favorite days to enjoy amazing artists and see friends.

Makawao Parade and Country Concert

The Makawao Parade opens the weeklong Makawao Stampede Festival this Saturday morning. The Parade starts at 9:00 am through the historic Makawao town and end at the Oskie Rice Event Center. Doors open at 10 am and concert starts at 12:00 pm. Vendors and Food onsite for purchase throughout the festivities. Tickets on sale for $25 general admission. Discounts available for keiki and kupuna and there is a VIP option as well.
