The long-awaited Kilauea Lighthouse Village finally completed construction and opened its doors on Kauai’s North Shore as Ahuimanu, which is Hawaiian for “a gathering place for the people.” Ahuimanu broke ground in September 2016 by developer, Hunt Companies Inc.
Kilauea Market + Cafe offered discounted prices and sampled menu items on opening day.
When a place of business or a new home opens its doors, it is common to have the location blessed by a Hawaiian kahu (guardian or minister). A ceremonial Hawaiian Blessing occurred on September 26, 2019, opening the front doors to the new Kilauea Market + Café, a grocery store and restaurant anchored in the neighborhood center.
Kilauea Market + Café
The Kilauea Market + Café is a full-service grocery store and café that includes a tastefully roasted coffee bar, smoothies, beer and wine bar, fresh prepared poke’ and foods, made-to-order specialties, and an indoor and outdoor dining area. The Café offers a full breakfast menu served daily from 6:00am – 10:30am. A lunch and dinner menu is offered from 10:30am – 10:00pm daily.
Local Hawaiian goods and floral arrangements can also be purchased while shopping for your groceries!
Ahuimanu
Ahuimanu, a 43,000 square-foot center, will be home to a mix of businesses and community services.
It is estimated that Ahuimanu and its tenants will create more than 100 permanent jobs. As a community amenity, Ahuimanu will offer meeting space to area non-profit organizations to use, located across from Kilauea Market + Café.
According to Hunt’s Hawaii Division, “About two-thirds of the development is either leased or under lease negotiations. The remaining one-third remains in active discussions with a number of companies interested in leasing space at Ahuimanu.”
