How to Prepare for Kauai's 3rd Annual Marathon

Thinking about a vacation on Kauai AND running a marathon? Here’s the perfect duo!

Beautiful Hanalei Bay and famous Bali Hai

Yes, the new year has arrived, and we are now on count down to Kauai’s 3rd Annual Marathon. We are exactly 8 months and 1 day away. There is a special entry fee discount if you register before March 31. If you are not a runner, but you want to do a marathon, then you have plenty of time to start.

I’ll try to help you get started the way I did, as I was not a runner. It’s really simple. Of course, it should go without saying that you need to check with your doctor before starting to confirm that you are healthy enough for any exercise program.

Once you get your doctor’s okay, just get started. Start tomorrow by going outside (or to a mall if you live in snow country) and walk/jog for 20 minutes. If you are not a jogger, you will do much more walking than jogging, but that is just fine. Just keep moving for 20 minutes. Distance or speed doesn’t matter right now!

And here’s the benefit, if you do this every day for 30 days, you will find that each day you will walk a little less and jog a little more. And at the end of 30 days, if you have done this faithfully, you should be able to jog two miles comfortably! Now you are a beginning runner, and you will be come addicted to what your body is able to do if you give it the opportunity.

Kauai is one of the most beautiful places in the world, so if you want to do your first marathon, why not combine it with a vacation in paradise? Remember to book your hotel rooms or vacation rentals early because they will sell out! For more information you can check here.

Sounds great!! You make it sound so simple, and I guess it can be if you take it one step at a time. How inspiring!

Hi Lucy,
This looks like a blast. I want to visit Kauai. I lived in Maui twice. I love it over there. The girl I’ve been dating for several years runs 10k’s. Bet she would love this.

Hi Lucy,

Another great run/walk is the 8 mile Haena to Hanalei Run, that supports the Hanalei Canoe Club. I ran it in 2000, and I have to say that the views are fantastic. The run is usually held the first Saturday in June, and I believe this year will mark its 31st.
