Since Kahala is a prime Oahu neighborhood, I am always on the look out for the best deals and good investment opportunities. There is a mixture of homes in the area and we have seen an increasing presence of new homes in the area.
Kahala Offers Large Lots
Since the area has many homes dating back through the 1920’s to present day, these homes come in all shapes and design. The one thing they do offer that most Oahu neighborhoods do not is large lots. Early development allowed for larger lots, but now, in modern Hawaii, the lots are very small. Out on the West side in new developments in Ewa and Kapolei, some lots are 3,000 square feet, so these large lots are great, if you can get one.
A large lot like this one is a score for Oahu buyers
The thing that I like about this diversity in housing development in Kahala is that you can pretty much pick a generational architectural style and you can likely find it in Kahala. From the 20’s Tudor style cottage, Ossipoff designs of the 60’s to the indoor/outdoor living spaces using rich woods and tropical settings that are seen in the Pip White or Nicholson homes we see today – Kahala has it all.
What to Look For When Buying a Kahala Home
The home featured in this blog stood out to me this month for a few reasons. I always keep two things in mind when viewing Kahala homes for sale:
- Lot Size
- Price
I am always looking for a large lot, so that the buyers can either keep the existing home or build an entirely new home. New homes in Kahala tend to be large, so a large lot is necessary.
This Kahala home has a large lot and is offered at a reasonable price
I also look at price, of course. With prices ranging from $1,000,000 up to $16,000,000, there is a large range to consider. As we have seen many times, you can get an older home on a large lot for $1.5 million, demolish and build a $5 million dollar home on it. The options are endless.
Kahala Best Buy
This property has a large lot, a good house that could stay, or go, depending on the buyer’s wishes, corner lot, and the price is right. 650 Ahakea St. is listed at $1,825,000 (MLS# 1210804).
