Hiking to the Gorgeous Hidden Honomalino Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii
One of South Kona’s most magical hidden black sand coves—Honomalino Bay
Tropical hidden beaches are one of my favorite things about living in Hawaii!! I believe in living each day to the fullest and really appreciating everything you’ve been given and have! This place I hold dear to my heart, Honomalino Bay…
I grew up in Papa Bay Estates, a small rural subdivision located in South Kona with homes for sale on acreage like this sweet self-sufficient 3 bed/2 bath home on over 5 acres (MLS# 240525), and as kids, my dad would always take us down to Honomalino Bay, which was only 5 miles away!! We loved it! Now, I live in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, only about 15 miles away from the Bay, and take my own family there at least once a week!
Once you get to the bottom of Milolii Road, you park at the pavilion and it’s a short, but gorgeous 20 minute hike through canopied trees, white sand beaches, barren lava fields, and epic coastal cliffs that lead you to a secluded black sand beach covered in coconut palms!! It’s like going on an adventure with Dora the Explorer! (Yes, I have 2 kiddos and often get to go on missions with Dora and the gang!)

I truly believe that there is more than one definition to ‘living in Hawaii.’ What I mean by that is you can live in the most beautiful place in the world and work, and get so caught up in ‘life,’ and forget why you chose to live where you are in the first place…I choose to live and really enjoy, and soak up every part of true Hawaii!!
The beach, the volcanoes, hiking, rain forests, waterfalls, golfing, paddling, kayaking, Iron Man, parades, the ocean, whales, dolphins, mountains, valleys, rainbows…I could go on and on…That’s why I choose to live here on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii and dedicate my life to my family, myself, and helping others achieve their Hawaii dream!

What a beautiful place! Please tell me about the trail and how easy a trek it is to get there. I am thinking as an elder gentleman who no longer chases children around. I can walk twenty minutes without resuscitation as long as the trail is not too difficult. Charli and I would love to go there with your family some day soon. Stay well and happy, Charlie

What a gorgeous place Jene! Secret coves at Honomalino & Milolii.. would love to adventure down there sometime.. beautiful palm trees near the beach make this a tropical oasis down south! Mahalo for educating us dear, you are Awesome!

Aloha Charlie~ Yes, that would be so fun! We’d love that! The hike is actually very easy… It is not very strenuous at all, you just need to watch out for the Keawe thorns!! 😉

Mahalo Claire~ It is definitely a beautiful tropical Oasis for sure!! We have these lightweight hammocks made out of parachute material that we bought from the Hawaii Forest and Trail store just South of Costco and we love to just lounge under the palms! Makes for a great nap time! hehee. Hope to see you there sometime soon!

This is absolutely our favorite beach on the Big Island. I heard that it was destroyed in the recent Tsunami, but haven’t been able to confirm the rumor. Do you know? Oh, please tell me it isn’t true!

Aloha Debi~ This is my favorite beach too, hands down! Unfortunately, it did suffer some damage in the recent tsunami here on the Big island. The very next day my hubby and I immediately went down and helped clean up as much as we could! I do have some pics I can email you also. The ‘hillside’ where the palms are and where most people lay out, is about 8 feet lower than it was, and some of the coconut palms are down. BUT its not destroyed… its still beautiful and worth the walk! I’ll send you those pics!Do you come here often?

We Kayaked to the Bay via the Milolii Village. We found you via foursquare when we checked into Milolii and Trey has you VERY well advertised. LOL There are lots around here ocean front for sale. But it is another estate co. Put it this way. They are drinking age; )
They really seem to get the listing and Bamm. List it and saying the lot is level. Umm we are staying here right next TOO it and it isnt level at all. LOL emailed and asked some questions and nothing.
We hope to someday buy here before the right time to buy disappears. And we hope maybe we could deal with you sometime.
