Homes in Haiku Maui

Haiku is a little like heaven, with lush green tropical estate homes just a stone’s throw from Paia and Kahului. What I like about Haiku is that it still has a laid-back Hawaiian feel from days long ago. When people come to my house from Kihei or even the mainland, they are always in awe of Haiku’s tropical beauty and streams that run in many of Haiku gulches. We are just minutes from Hookipa Beach Park, my favorite surf spot over the years, and a world-class windsurfing destination. Windsurfing at Hookipa is above my pay grade; I prefer Kanaha. Paia town is a 15-minute drive with great places to eat and shop.

Homes Haiku

Haiku is a blend of people from all walks of life. It is a mixture of artists, musicians, watermen and women, gardeners, and people looking for a quieter lifestyle that Haiku Maui offers. On Maui’s North Shore, people live here for years, raising their families, and sometimes their kids grow up and become excellent watermen like Kai Lenny. My sons and their daughters are great surfers. My youngest granddaughter just took fifth in the state championships in Oahu.

Five reasons you might want to buy a house in Haiku Maui.

  1. Location: We are just minutes from North Shore beaches, where you can surf, windsurf, or kitesurf, and there are some good hiking trails.
  2. Weather: I love the climate in Haiku. It’s not too hot, and not too cold. We do get rain, but that keeps everything green and tropical. Today is a beautiful day in Haiku.
  3. Places to eat: Haiku has great restaurants, from sushi to pizza, Wailuku Coffee Co, and vegan dishes at Veg-out.
  4. Great shopping. You are minutes away from great shopping in Makawao and Paia Town. Health food stores, surf shops, and a variety of restaurants.
  5. You’re just 25 minutes to the airport, hospitals, Costco, and major shopping stores like Tarket and Hi-Tech Maui for all your ocean crafts, Foiling, windsurfing, and surfing.
  6. Haiku is an extraordinary place to call home. In the winter, you have gentle rains to fall asleep to, and in the summer, you have gorgeous sunny days with the trade winds blowing. I love the countryside of Haiku. As you drive up into Haiku, you get this feeling of entering old Hawaii because it really hasn’t changed much over the years. I love the island homes in Haiku, which have tropical vegetation and tall palm trees.

My wife was born and raised in Haiku. We both loved to travel, but Haiku Maui is home. She loves working in the yard with orchids, tropical plants, and our ever-growing list of fruit trees. Our dogs and pet pigs love hanging out with her in the yard. My daughter is 36, and has two beautiful horses she keeps on another property. It is a good place if you are into horses, maybe couple chickens for fresh eggs.
