On such a beautiful island with so many beaches and hikes, you can find a lovely spot to set up a picnic and watch the sunset without spending your paycheck on a restaurant. If you follow one of these ideas, your partner will be utterly impressed with your romanticism.
Picnic at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens
Nestled in Kaneohe is a huge park you can drive throughout with so many beautiful fields you can lay out a blanket and be alone with your love and enjoy a picnic. There is free parking and no charge to enter the park. So you and your special someone can bring some snacks and hang out for free! You can drive throughout the park and find parking throughout or you can leisurely walk the strails throughout and see these gorgeous mountain views.
Sunrise or Sunset at Sandys
Sandy Beach Park is in a great location for both early birds and night owls. From anywhere on the beach you can see the sunrise and enjoy a beautiful morning with that special someone. Bring some coffee and blankets and you’ll have the cutest coziest morning watching the sun rise and the waves break with hardly anyone around.
The sunset can also be beautiful at Sandy Beach Park. Although you may not see the sun directly go down you can still enjoy the sky turn from blue to pink without the crowds who are chasing the sunset at China Walls. Year-round the sunset is always pretty and the lifeguards leave before it sets so you can even get a view from their tower! Pack some Foodland poke and a bottle of bubbly and enjoy the evening together!
Road Trip Around the Island
Enjoy the scenic route to the North Shore from Waimanalo through Kahana Bay and stop along the way to enjoy the views together! This drive will take you along the coast the entire way with nonstop views of the ocean and mountains. Bring snacks for the road trip and then stop in Haleiwa town for some lunch! From burgers to Acai bowls, the North Shore has plenty of takeout that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Once you’ve gotten some food and enjoyed the drive, stop and take in the big waves as they’re at their biggest during the winter.

> sadly no Trader Joes is not in Hawaii yet but hopefully one day! That bag was a souvenir from a mainland store.
