Are you thinking about selling your home? If so, you probably already know about the importance of staging. Most savvy Sellers know that preparing and presenting their home properly enhances both its appearance and its value. By simply adding the right decor and furniture, you can create more appeal and a higher price tag for your property. Staging is a great tool that can make even the most boring or drab space feel vibrant and welcoming.
What Does it Mean to Stage a Home?
Staging generally involves the addition of items, like furniture, plants, and artwork. You may have to remove or rearrange some items, too. Staging can also entail painting and some minor maintenance and repairs. You may have to invest some time and money into staging, but the return usually makes it well worthwhile.
Everyone agrees that professional staging is a great way to enhance property, but even so, some Sellers resist the idea. It may be too much change at a time when things are already moving too fast. Selling is never easy and letting go of a beloved home is emotional. As such, drastic changes may not be well-received by a Seller.
Styling Your Home to Sell
So, if full-on staging sounds a bit overwhelming to you, consider styling your house instead. Styling is very similar to staging, but it’s more about assessing what you have and placing it where it looks best. If you want to improve the appeal of your home by “putting on its best face,” just style it! Styling goes beyond decluttering and cleaning, but not quite as far as staging. Styling your home is simply about refreshing your home. By simply assessing what you have and working with it, you can still feel at home, but at home with a fresh new look. Preparing your home by styling is a bit like set designing. Everything is in just the right place. Arranged perfectly. Ideally set. Styling will renew your home. It will give it a great facelift. But, without as much cost, time, and trouble. And, without as much change.
Stage, Style, or Both?
If you are in the market to sell your home, work with your Realtor to determine the best course of action for you. Most Realtors work with stagers who do both staging and styling. Usually, the process involves both, but for those who simply want to refresh their home, focus on simple styling. Your home will look better and it will sell better. And, you’ll feel better because your home will still look like home — the very best version of home.
