A Baby Whale Named Sugar Spotted Swimming With Her Pod Near This Beachside Condo in South Maui

What a great start to 2022!

I am so excited to share that a baby whale and her mother have been spotted swimming together along the coastline near Sugar Beach.  This beach is also known as Kealia Beach, in Kihei, Maui. The baby, nicknamed Sugar, was first spotted on what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday. Therefore, locals have taken to calling the calf Betty or Betty White.

The albino humpback baby whale and her mother can be seen from the shoreline traveling up and down Maui’s South coast, with a large escort of whales protecting them. Whale watching during the winter months is just one of the extraordinary perks of Maui life.

Kealia Resort is where I live here on Maui.  Kealia is situated on 5 miles of sandy beach, Sugar Beach, that stretches to Maalaea and is centrally located to all things Maui. I enjoy living in my condo, in from of Sugar Beach. In the morning swim at the ocean. In the afternoon, I walked the beautiful Sandy shore and then watch the sunset. Some of my neighbors are members of the Kihei Canoe Club. They enjoy canoe paddling in the morning. It is fun to watch them from my lanai.

I love living in Kihei. It is one of the most central places to live on Maui, with some of the best beaches in the world! It also has easy access to the big surfing waves of Maui’s North Shore, and to the posh resort living of Wailea, just a few short miles to the south. Kealia Resort is minutes to world-class shopping, dining and golf in Wailea.
