Getting Your House Ready to Sell
Let’s go on a little journey today. Are you thinking about getting your house ready to sell? Hi, I’m Fawn Bertram with Homes by Fawn and Hawaii Life Real Estate. Today let’s talk about getting your house ready to sell.
You may be wondering where do I start and that’s a great question. But before we do, let’s put ourselves in the buyer’s position and what we would look for as a buyer. So let’s get into it, here are 5 tips to help you get started.
Tip #1: Declutter Your Home
When buyers enter your home, they want to see everything. They’ll look in closets, pantries, under the sink, drawers, and your garage. Start off by going room by room. Take down personal pictures, knick-knacks, or large collections that are on display and unusual decor. By removing these items, you’re letting the buyers imagine themselves living there, and at the same time, you’re creating space.
Tip #2: Clean
This is a big one — buyers will notice if your home is dirty. The dirtier the home is, the faster they’ll run out the front door and not spend time in your home. You want the buyers to take their time and look around.
By having a dirty house, it’s showing the buyers you do not care for the home. Clean the walls, baseboards, doors, railings, showers, and don’t forget to mop the floors and vacuum. Nothing is worse than walking on a sticky or greasy floor barefoot.
Tip #3: Curb Appeal
You’ve probably heard about curb appeal and it’s the first thing buyers see when looking at a home. This is very true; a lot of buyers drive around a home or neighborhood before seeing it in person. Before listing your home for sale, make sure your home looks clean and tidy from the outside.
Mow the grass, cut back the trees, remove weeds, clean the driveway or powerwash the home, add a pop of color to the entrance with some flowers and a nice Welcome mat.
Tip #4: Paint with Neutral Colors
Should you paint or touch up the inside of your home and the answer is yes. Choose a color of paint that is neutral. Stay away from the bold, crazy colors. A fresh coat of paint always makes a good impression and maximizes your return on investment.
Tip #5: Lighting
When selling your home, it’s all about first impressions. A poorly lit room can make a home feel small, uninviting, and scary. Open up the blinds, pull back the drapes, turn on the lights for all showings. Go room by room and replace burnt-out light bulbs, fix lighting issues, update light fixtures if needed or add light fixtures. Don’t forget about the outside lights as well. Remember, a potential buyer could be driving around the neighborhood day or night.
