Vegas Style Fun Night, Sept. 29th, Kauai Beach Resort

The Kauai Board of Realtors is hosting a Vegas-Style Fun Night this Saturday, September 29th, at the Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue from 5:30 – 9:30pm. There will be Blackjack, Poker, Craps, and Roulette (all are ‘no-win’ events, of course, since its for charity). We’ll also have pupus, cocktails, dancing, and a great Silent Auction with over $10,000 in offerings!

The Scholarship program is extremely important to the Kauai Board of Realtors. Giving Kauai students additional funds towards college or vocational schools is actually written in to our Articles of Incorporation. I’ll confess that when I first joined KBR I didn’t quite understand the significance of the Scholarship Program, or why it’s taken so seriously. Over the years, we’ve hosted bowling events, or golf outings, all to raise money for scholarships. Of course, contributing to students’ education is a noble cause… but I didn’t quite realize the impact of it until I volunteered to help read the applications that KBR receives from students all over Kauai.

These students are miraculous minds; future scientists, astronauts, engineers, educators. They share about their lives, their accomplishments, and their dreams. The cost of higher education is quickly rising. And, let’s face it, Kauai’s economy just isn’t as robust as other parts of the country. These kids’ parents have multiple jobs in the hospitality or agricultural industries, doing everything they can to send their children to school. Reviewing the scholarship applications and participating in awarding the scholarships is some of the most moving and inspiring work I’ve done in my years of volunteer work for the Kauai Board of Realtors.

The cost of admission to the Vegas Style Fun Night is $70 if you register before the end of the month. I know $70 dollars is a lot of money to a lot of people. I know that because when we reward these $1000 scholarships to students, the impact on their lives is profound. Please join this Saturday at the Kauai Beach Resort. Let’s have fun, get our game on, and dance the night away… all to help Kauai students with higher education costs.
