From honoring Lahaina with lights and remembrance to cheering on golfers, swimmers, hula performers, and country music fans, there are plenty of ways to get out, connect, and support local events. Lights for Lahaina
Lights for Lahaina returns Friday and Saturday, September 11–12, as a free community gathering centered on remembrance, resilience, and hope in Lahaina. Friday evening’s “Our Lahaina Story” at Maria Lanakila Catholic Church brings together music, cultural practitioners, local nonprofits, schools, food trucks, vendors, creative activities, and space to share memories. On Saturday, the Light March begins at Puʻunoa Beach and moves respectfully through historic Lahaina Town, with participants carrying lights in honor of Lahaina’s past, present, and future before gathering again at Maria Lanakila. Maui Open Golf Championship
The Maui Open Golf Championship tees off September 11–13 at The King Kamehameha Golf Club, bringing one of Maui’s longest-running golf traditions back to the course for a weekend of competition, community pride, and island sports history. Presented by Maui Toyota, the tournament features championship play, senior and super senior divisions, A-Flight and women’s divisions, plus a Friday Pro-Am and practice round. Founded in 1952 and now growing as a charitable nonprofit, the Maui Open continues to celebrate elite golf on Maui while giving back through youth and community programs. Nashville Nights
Nashville Nights returns to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa this Saturday featuring country hitmaker Jerrod Niemann. Set outdoors on the Halona Kai Event Lawn along Ka‘anapali Beach, this intimate songwriter-style evening brings Nashville’s stories and songs to Maui with a relaxed oceanfront backdrop. The show runs from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., with general admission seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Southern-inspired bites and handcrafted cocktails will be available for purchase, and kids 12 and under are complimentary with an adult ticket. 11th Annual Sophie Swim
The 11th Annual Sophie Swim takes place Sunday, September 13, in Lahaina, offering swimmers and supporters a meaningful way to spend the weekend on the water while honoring a beloved Maui tradition. Registration is available through Finish Line Productions, which lists the Lahaina event among its September race offerings. Whether you’re swimming, cheering from shore, or simply looking for a community-minded outdoor activity, this annual event is a great way to support local athletics and connect with Maui’s ocean community. 20th Annual Kū Mai Ka Hula
Kū Mai Ka Hula returns to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Saturday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m. for its 20th annual celebration of Maui’s premier adult hula competition. Award-winning hālau from Hawaiʻi and beyond will take the stage in solo, group, and kūpuna divisions, sharing both kahiko and ʻauana styles in a powerful showcase of Hawaiian culture, mele, and movement. Guests can also enjoy made-in-Hawaiʻi artisan displays, food and beverages in the Yokouchi Pavilion Courtyard, and pre-show entertainment by Ke Kula ʻO Piʻilani. MCHCA Long Distance Season
Long Distance Season rolls on, and this week Maui crews get a break from the race calendar after the Kihei-hosted distance race on August 29. The next major long-distance event on the published schedule is the Pailolo Challenge, hosted by Hawaiian Canoe Club on Saturday, September 19. Until then, paddlers are deep in endurance-season mode—building stamina, reading open-ocean conditions, and keeping that steady team rhythm sharp. Uncertainty continues with Real Estate as non-residential owners are beginning to look elsewhere and regulations are hastening the process for them. Savvy Buyers have been identifying and scooping these opportunities. Will you be ready to buy? Many buyers are getting prequalified for loans now in anticipation of the market improving. Investors are refinancing to use equity lines to make cash offers which appeal to Sellers in multiple offer situations or using 1031 funds that have to be earmarked for real estate purchases. Latest Maui Figures
As of August 20th, Maui County has 249 pending transactions and 1630 active for 13.2%. We’ve held over 12 since the last update. Hopefully, we will be able to stick the 13’s and continue to increase this figure.
