Artificial Intelligence is incredible. Believe me—I use it almost every day. It helps me write blogs, brainstorm marketing ideas, organize information, summarize market reports, and even helps me become a better Realtor. But after nearly 10 years as a Realtor Broker on Kauai, one thing has become very clear to me…. AI can’t replace what I actually do for my clients.
Because buying a home isn’t just about finding a property online. It’s about having someone beside you when things don’t go exactly as planned.
Most People Only See the Fun Part
People see us opening doors and showing beautiful homes. What they don’t see are the hundreds of conversations, emails, phone calls, negotiations, inspections, deadlines, and problem-solving that happen behind the scenes. A real estate transaction is like a giant puzzle with dozens of moving pieces. My job is making sure they all fit together.
Before we ever write an offer, I’m helping my buyers:
- Learn about neighborhoods that fit their lifestyle.
- Understand current market conditions.
- Review comparable sales and pricing.
- Connect with trusted local lenders.
- Find off-market opportunities when available.
- Decide whether a home is a great fit—or one to walk away from.
Then, once we find the right home… I negotiate. I explain contracts. I coordinate with lenders, escrow officers, inspectors, appraisers, title companies, insurance agents, and contractors – and even bee keepers! I track every deadline so nothing gets missed. I review disclosures. I answer the phone when clients are nervous. I help solve problems before they become expensive problems.
That’s the part Zillow—and AI—can’t do.

The Part That Never Shows Up on a Closing Statement
Some of my favorite moments have nothing to do with contracts. But taking care of people is part of what I love about my “job”.
Over the years, I’ve:
- Picked clients up from the airport.
- Cleaned condos myself when the cleaners didn’t show up.
- Met movers when owners couldn’t be here.
- Waited for furniture deliveries.
- Helped arrange house cleaners before move-in.
- Sold bicycles, furniture, and household items for clients.
- Recommended painters, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, inspectors, and handymen.
- Helped transfer utilities.
- Returned cable boxes
- Strapped down furniture before storms and checked on vacant homes after storms.
- Shared my favorite beaches, restaurants, hiking trails, and hidden spots around Kauai.
Experience matters and that’s something no algorithm can learn overnight. Experience has taught me how to anticipate problems before they happen, when to negotiate harder, when to slow down, when to pick up the phone instead of sending an email, and when a client simply needs reassurance that everything is going to be okay.
Yes, technology continues to make buying and selling homes easier and that’s a wonderful thing. But at the end of the day, people don’t hire me because I can search the MLS. They hire me because they want someone they trust to guide them through one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions of their lives.
AI is changing the real estate industry. But I also believe there will always be room for experience, local knowledge, good judgment, strong negotiation, and genuine human connection.
And that’s exactly what I strive to provide every single client.
Whether you’re buying your first condo, your forever home, or your dream property on Kauai, my goal is simple: to make the process easier, less stressful, and maybe even a little fun along the way. See my 2026 sales to date as a listing agent here. See my 2026 sales to date as a buyer’s agent here.
