But before I tell you about the house, let me tell you a little about the history I have with it even before I ever became a Realtor. When I was little, Sunday afternoons entailed piling into the family car for a drive off to somewhere far. For a Maui boy, that meant Lahaina, Kihei, or Upcountry. It seems like Lahaina was the most frequent option as it seemed “exotic.” 

They were beginning to develop Kaanapali and had just completed the old Whaler’s Village Shopping Center (current one looks nothing like the original :-/ ). If you can believe that there was only one Crazy Shirts T-Shirt shop, it was at Whaler’s Village. We’d often drive the lower road, Front Street, to get to our destination. I often remember passing a large concrete house with blue trim. I liked it because it was unusual and nothing like I had ever seen before. That must have been my earliest moments of being fascinated with architecture. 

Fast forward many years, I’m writing to tell you about that exact house. I’m not just driving by it, I’ve co-listed it and have been showing it to prospective buyers. It was a pretty surreal moment when I drove up to it for the first time. All I’ve ever seen of it was from the street. 

I got out of my car to see the towering sides of it as well. Even though I’m a bigger person now, it still seems large to me. The structure itself is mainly poured concrete towering 3 stories tall. The current physical state seems ready for a new iteration, however, the structure itself is pretty stunning.

I haven’t given much to describing the rooms because the home needs a complete tear out/remodel. A lack of love has left its mark on the home, for now. I’ve been so taken by the house, I’ve neglected to mention that it has one of the deepest pools I’ve ever seen as well as a guest house.

Now let’s talk location. You’d be directly across the street and about 140 yards away for beach access of one of Lahaina’s best. The most recent sale was a beachfront home of 2,000 square feet with ohana that sold for $2.4 mil. All the shops, restaurants and entertainment in the Front Street area are about a 20 minute walk away.

Oh yeah, back to the home as art thought. A well designed home takes into account many aspects. Most important to me is the availability of light and how that light can be manipulated.
