The Birth of an Architect Fanboy
Toothpicks and glue – 2 ingredients that helped launch my closeted inner architect. It was a cold winter day in sixth grade when I was offered a box of toothpicks and some glue and told to build something. Little did I know that the joy found in that project would orient me to a fascination with the built form. I’ll keep the toothpicks and glue part of the story short for this post, but if you want the more colorful story, check out my wordier version at Modern on Maui.

Legend Holds That This Kula House Started Life as an Architecture Project
Walking through this beautiful, blocky, warm, and comfortable house I was instantly reminded of that toothpick project. Legend has it that the house was originally an architecture school senior project by the owner’s son. True or false? We may never know, but built in the early 80s, the house is a remarkably accomplished work of architecture – successfully creating comfortable living on a spectacular view site and leveraging air, views, space, and light.
Easy Rooftop Access for Kula Stargazing
The design of the house incorporates a nice staircase to the rooftop where you can get an even larger view than the already ample view enjoyed by most every room of the main house. What’s particularly comforting about this feature is that not only can you enjoy the view up here, you can maintain the skylights, flashing, and trouble shoot anything about the roof that might pop up over time.
Black and White Photos Help to Feature Basic Forms
I’m teasing you with Black and White Photography, which doesn’t make you feel all warm and Hawaiian fuzzy, but helps to lay bare lines and the form of this sophisticated oeuvre. The truth of the property is that it’s cozy, tropical, and warm and I invite you to check out the feel good color photography.
This property is listed by Coldwell Banker Island Properties. I would be thrilled to represent you as a buyer for this property.
