Almost every buyer that I consult with who wants to live in the Honolulu area mentions Manoa as one of their desired neighborhoods. It’s no wonder with the historical charm of the community that this is the case. As a result of almost daily rainfall, Manoa Valley is lush, beautiful, and very quaint. While it’s physically in a convenient area of Honolulu, when you’re in the valley you feel like you are in a totally separate oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.
Manoa Falls, a very popular hike in Manoa Valley
Manoa is filled with culture and activities, the main focus being the flagship campus of the University of Hawaii, founded in 1907. Besides the UH, Manoa is home to are many other schools that have positive ratings and therefore long wait lists, notably the UH Lab School and Mid-Pacific Institute.

The Arts are covered here as well, with the Manoa Valley Theatre a very popular site for local plays plus ongoing events at the UH Kennedy Theatre. Of course for UH sports fans, basketball, volleyball, and baseball games all take place on the grounds of the UH campus.
Manoa Real Estate
As for real estate, there is a high concentration of designated historical homes in Manoa. Odds are that you will not see any 2 homes alike, which is part of the draw for many. The lots are typically larger, although some homes have up-sloped lots, so it may not be fully usable. Many homes were built in the Tudor or Craftsman style of architecture, which adds to its character. Prices for single-family homes generally start from the mid $800,000s. Prices are quite elevated here, as demand for them remains steady.
If you are interested in learning more about Manoa or the homes in the valley, check out the Manoa Heritage Center. This is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Manoa through education and even a tour of a Tudor home that is on the National Historic Register.
