Week 19—Buttery Macadamia Nut Sticks!
Buttery Macadamia Nut Sticks Recipe
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2/3 cup lukewarm water
- 1 pkg. (1/4 oz.) dry yeast
- 2 to 2 ½ cups flour
- ½ tsp. salt
- ½ cup butter softened
- 1 jar (4.5 oz.) macadamia nuts, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. water
Directions
In large mixing bowl combine sugar, water, and yeast; let stand 5 minutes or until bubbles appear. Mix 1 cup of the flour, salt, and butter; blend with an electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in macadamia nuts. Gradually add remaining 1 to 1 ½ cups of the flour as needed to make a stiff dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Place in a bowl and cover with a cloth. Let rise 1 hour.
Punch down the dough and divide into two parts. Roll dough into a rectangle ¼ inch thick and 4 inches wide. Cut into strips ½ inch wide. Place sticks on parchment lined or buttered and floured baking sheets. Beat together egg and water; brush on sticks. Let rise 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown Makes 30.
