Support Local: Classic and Newly Opened Big Island Restaurants!

Hawaii’s most acclaimed microbrewery opened its doors in Kailua-Kona nearly 27 years ago and has been turning out award-winning local beers and gourmet crafted pizzas at its Kona Brew Pub ever since. Now, over the past few months, it has welcomed a trio of new dining spots to the Brewery Block center. Another local favorite is soon to join them as Umeke’s relocates to the Block from its current Kaiwi Street location.

While continuing to support your go-to restaurants – especially during these challenging times – I encourage you to give these newbies to our local dining scene a try. You won’t be disappointed!

HIco

This specialty Hawaiian coffee café is uber cool with its sleek interior and natural woods. Hawaii, with more than 800 coffee farms located throughout the island archipelago, is the only U.S. state that grows coffee commercially and HIco is now doing its part to share the 100% Hawaiian gourmet products by offering a rotating menu of beans and brews sourced from various distinct regions in Hawaii. They are also serving up a limited menu of tasty savory bites and desserts. Among them: Chia Oat Pudding, Cucumber, Avocado and Almond Banana Toasts, Traditional and Vegan Charcuterie Boards, Vegan Afforgato, Honey Toast, and the HIco Sundae. hicohawaiiancoffee.com

Izakaya Shiono

This is the fourth Big Island location for this beloved eatery, however, with a delicious twist!  While pristine sushi and sashimi from the finest selection of fish found in oceans worldwide – including, of course, our own Hawaiian waters – are showcased, this location also features a broad selection of ramen, curry and tempura dishes, katsu (chicken and pork) as well as gyoza and shumai dumplings, assorted pupu and desserts. sushishiono.com

Willie’s Hot Chicken

Bringing a taste of Nashville to our Kailua-Kona community, this high energy establishment is firing up local taste buds with its spicy fried chicken offerings. An assortment of salads and sides also are offered. Featuring a full bar, indoor and outdoor seating, Willie’s Hot Chicken has also introduced “First Frydays” with live music on its outdoor lanai– social distancing and masks an absolute must! willieshotchicken.com

Enjoy these restaurants while staying healthy, happy, and safe. I am sending much aloha to you and your family!
