If you are anything like me, you are probably a pretty trusting person. I generally think the best of people, so I’m sometimes caught unaware when someone tries to scam me. During COVID-19, there are a lot of scammers about, and it is easy to fall prey to their schemes. More than ever, it is important to be careful. Careful not to fall for advertisements boasting quick cures to the Coronavirus. Careful not to believe in fake news and false promises that can mislead you and harm you. Bottom line — there are a lot of scam Coronavirus emails going around, so rely only on health information from legitimate sources:
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- National Institutes of Health
- World Health Organization (WHO)
During COVID-19, we all know that it is important to take care of our physical health. But, it is also important to take care of our mental and financial health, too. So, be wise and take steps to keep yourself from falling victim to scams. Trust your gut instincts. Take time on decisions. In any given situation, ask yourself, “Do I have enough information about this? Steer clear of unfamiliar sources. And lastly, don’t hesitate to ask a trusted friend or advisor if you are unsure about something. A few wise measures will go a long way in ensuring your safety and peace of mind.
