Where can I start? East Oahu is gorgeous. Breathtaking landscape, great diving, surfing, and scrumptious restaurants. Superior school systems and community lifestyle have driven Hawaii Kai to become one of the most sought after and desirable places to reside here on Oahu. It is the perfect place for the ocean-loving person wanting to live the true Hawaii Life!
Let’s Talk Restaurants
One of my favorite things to do is eat. Being half Sicilian and having a grandmother who kept me in the kitchen most of my life, food and wine has become some of my passions. Hawaii Kai and the east side in general is loaded with great establishments. To start off my list of 10 reasons to live Hawaii Kai side, #1 goes to my favorite Pub, Kona Brewery located at 7192 Kalanianaole Hwy., Honolulu, HI 96825.
I am not much of a beer drinker, but when I do get the craving for an ice cold pint, it’s a tasty local brew over at Kona’s. Whether you live here in Hawaii or have visited in the past, it is likely that you’ve graced your pallet with the refreshing, bold flavor of a Kona brew. They have been bottling beers since 1995 and are famous for their Big Wave Golden Ale as well as their Longboard Island Lager. Either choice is great, and all brewed on island.
My personal favorite would have to be the Koko Brown Nut Ale when you can find it. Coincidentally named after Koko Head, which is a great yet slightly intimidating Hawaii Kai hike! More on that later…

The appetizers are great to share and they usually have live music weekly. The Big Island Grass fed burgers are delicious with the papaya slaw or one of their fresh salads. The restaurant is right on the waterway and features a huge wrap around bar. If you aren’t a bar person, they have covered lanai seating as well, with beautiful views. The service is always top notch with plenty of Aloha going around! Perfect for families, friends or date night out. It’s the neighborhood place to go!
The Kona Brewery on the Big Island is fully solar powered pumping out an average of 645 Kilowatts per day of clean energy. So you can feel great drinking the beer! See my other blog on solar energy in Hawaii if you like that sort of thing.
Stay tuned for reason #2…
