Princeville Ranch: A North Shore Gem

Princeville Ranch is an iconic historical part of Kauai. One of the few places left on the North Shore with wide open spaces, and thousands of acres to enjoy eco-friendly activities. This beautiful ranch is truly a gem.

In 1893, Albert Spencer Wilcox purchased Princeville, which included present-day Princeville Ranch. He was the son of a missionary couple, who had traveled to Hawaii to teach Christianity and English to the Hawaiian people. The purchase included 1,700 acres in Hanalei, which he rented out to Chinese rice planters, and the upper lands, which he used for cattle ranching.

In 1919, ownership of the ranch lands changed, with Lihue Plantation purchasing the property. Since then, ownership of the ranch has changed multiple times, with the present landowner being The Resort Group.

Since 1978, the Carswell family (who are relatives of A.S. Wilcox) have leased 2,500 acres of the ranch, using it for horseback riding tours, rodeos, and ranching cattle. Now in addition to horseback riding adventures, they offer zipling, hiking, and kayaking, all within the ranch.
