North Shore Sessions: Catch Live Music & Talk Story at Surfer [THE BAR]
After a day of riding North Shore waves, or just witnessing pro surfers in profound awe at Pipeline or Sunset Beach, laid-back North Shore residents head to Surfer [THE BAR]. This partnership between the lavish Turtle Bay Resort and Surfer magazine—the bible for wave riders around the globe — is home to some amazing acts, livening up the otherwise quiet North Shore nights.
At Surfer [THE BAR], you’ll find an ever-changing calendar of live music and entertainment. You can catch local favorites like Anuhea, Kimié Miner, and Rebecca Beralas. Colbie Caillat has played here. North Shore resident Jack Johnson has been known to pop by to play an impromptu set or two. Your life may never be the same after hearing the insanely powerful vocals of Paula Fuga up close in and in person.
The stage also showcases talk story sessions with local icons, artists, celebrities, and surfers. A recent Talk Story session featured Nainoa Thompson, Native Hawaiian navigator of Hawai’i’s traditional double-hull sailing canoe Hokulea, and president of the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Renowned surf historian and author John Clark has also graced the stage. Surfer [THE BAR] also features stand-up comedians, Wanderlust yoga events, and Wednesday karaoke nights. Wind down and get creative at an interactive wine, cheese and paint event, or settle in for a screening of some big wave photography and filmography.
The bar menu offers some filling options if you’ve worked up an appetite in the ocean all day. Don’t miss the rib eye steak burger, their yummy onion rings, or some ahi poke. Pair it up with draft beer, a decent little wine selection, or if you’re feeling super fancy, some bottle service. The luxury of Turtle Bay Resort is available here, right alongside some ono local grinds and amazing local acts!
Turtle Bay Resort is tucked into the Kahuku area of O‘ahu, and sits almost at the northern most tip of the island. A beautiful area known for its local farms, incredible surfing, and quiet lifestyle, the resort has a 19-hole golf course and tons of amenities, in addition to some super luxury living in nearby Kuilima Estates and Ocean Villas. Surfer [THE BAR] is open Wednesday through Saturday nights, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Check their website for a full calendar of their upcoming events!
