It’s really exciting to announce the opening of the fourth ‘Sip Me’ coffee shop location! The new spot is located at 7 E. Ka’ahumanu Ave., Kahului at the Pu’unene Ave. intersection across from O’Reilly Auto Parts.
The Story Behind Sip Me
I had the pleasure of speaking with ‘Sip Me’ owner Laura Wentworth on opening day, May 19th. She said, “We are so grateful to be supported by the community.” Laura told me her business was inspired by memories made with her grandfather. The whole concept of ‘Sip Me’ is to honor him and the memories they made together at Clyde’s Coffee Shop in Montana where she grew up. Clyde’s was all about family with an old school look. Sip Me is very much the same when it comes to family. The Kahului location vibe is very simple and classy. Laura told me the ‘Sip Me’ name comes from a scene in the movie Alice in Wonderland, and their motto is “every cup served with love.”

What’s on the Menu?
You’re probably wondering about all the delicious things on the menu! The ingredients are almost 100% organic & mostly local. All the coffees are sourced & custom blended by Maui Oma, a premier coffee roaster. They also carry a wide variety of teas. One of my favorites is their Matcha which is a stone-ground, Japanese-style, green tea. My son sipped a ‘Cookies & Cream’ hot chocolate made with raw cacao. He loved it! Temperature and sweetness were just right. This time, I enjoyed the House Blend. If you have something refreshing in mind they also have cold-pressed juices and smoothies. Sip Me also employs two executive chefs who make all the beautiful, organic, tasty treats you’ll see on display. One of my favorite things to do is take my son on a date to the “tea shop” and get a treat! Gluten-free and vegan options are also available.
Much More to Come
A great perk is the drive-thru! They are still working on getting permits for all their signs; however, everything is up and running. They will also be installing a bell for speedy drive-thru service. The building, being an old bank, has a giant vault that will be utilized as the coolest conference room on Maui (and safest), haha. Exciting news for South Maui residents is there is a new Wailea location set to open on January 1st, 2019.
Bank vault for meetings
The community is an integral part of ‘Sip Me’ and it really shows. I had the pleasure of meeting Carlita one of Laura’s biggest supporters from the very beginning. When Laura had doubts before opening her first location in Makawao, Carlita was there to encourage her. Drea, the longest running employee and now COO, was also behind the counter making sure everything ran smoothly for opening day. Lastly, Wendy, who supplies the raw cacao, also popped in for a drink to sip and a treat to eat.
Be sure to check out their Instagram @sipmemaui and their other locations in Makawao & Paia. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
