GREAT photo of the gecko enjoying a papaya for breakfast!
We, too, fell in love with Hawaii the first time we visited in the early 1990s. Bought a deeded timeshare for odd years and quit trading it a few years later–we just go to our resort in Waikoloa every time.
On the last visit, we started looking at single family properties. $400k will buy half the square footage it will here in the Phoenix area, and we weren’t quite ready to give up our antiques and collectibles (moving costs if we didn’t would be exorbitant), so we up-sized…in our sixties. But the ultimate goal is NW (Kapa’au area), NE (Lihue area) or north-central Big Island. We have friends there, and love hiking with them, bicycling the highways, and enjoying the healthy lifestyle of fresh fruit from your own trees. My hubby is a drummer and has immersed himself in Hawaiian chant drums, buying one nearly every time we stop in at Ika Vea’s shop in Kapa’au…I think he hopes to talk him into teaching him to make these traditional drums, so I keep telling him he shouldn’t wait TOO long…
