Tonight (January 31st, 2017) I had the pleasure of checking out Maui Brewing Co’s grand opening in Waikiki with some friends. The new 18,000 square-foot restaurant is located in the same building as the Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel at 2300 Kalakaua Avenue on the second level (take the escalators from the Kalakaua Avenue and Duke’s Lane entrance). The separate entrance isn’t yet complete so the restaurant can be a bit tricky to find, but it’s worth it!
Making friends with the staff
Since moving to O’ahu from Minnesota, I’ve had a difficult time finding spots like these that seem to become common gathering places amongst friends. Back in my snowy white tundras state, breweries and tap rooms are popping up all over the place as a result of mass gentrification and lower real estate costs, but in Hawaii that’s a much different story. In order for a restaurant/brewery to stay open, it truly needs to become “the spot” or it simply doesn’t last. I’m confident Maui Brewing Co. will not only last but become the new Waikiki gem for beer and food lovers alike. But don’t take my word for it… go find out for yourself and let me know what you think!
