Love Where You Live – Reason #21 – Moena Cafe

In my Love Where You Live blog series, I’ve been reflecting on how it’s often the simple things—the places we gather, the meals we share, and the connections we make—that bring the most joy. For me, Moena Cafe in Hawaii Kai is one of those special places to gather and connect. It’s a sweet spot where good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and friendship come together in the best way.

One of the things I love most about Moena is their thoughtfully crafted and varied menu —there truly is something for everyone. If you’re in the mood for breakfast, you’ll find everything from fluffy pancakes and sweet waffles to hearty omelets and loco mocos. Their eggs benedict is a favorite for many, with just the right balance of rich hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs. For lunch, you can’t go wrong with fresh salads, flavorful sandwiches, or local-style plates.

When it comes to the food, I definitely have my go-to favorites. I can never resist their avocado toast— the sriracha aioli is a game-changer. I also love their Kale Caesar Salad, with the perfect mix of crisp romaine and kale tossed in a non-traditional dressing. The Beet & Goat Cheese Salad is also a favorite. The roasted beets, creamy goat cheese, and candied pecans make for a delicious combination. Of course, there is plenty on the menu to choose from.

But what makes Moena Café truly special isn’t just what’s on the plate—it’s the people behind it. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, greeting you with genuine smiles that make you feel like part of the family. And at the heart of it all are the owners, Eric and Nicole Chang—a dynamic duo who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and heart to everything they do. Moena Café is at the center of their passion, and you can feel that love and care in every detail, from the menu to the atmosphere they’ve created.

That’s why Moena Café has become more than just a place to eat—it’s a gathering spot. Friends meet for long breakfasts, neighbors run into each other and catch up, and it’s the kind of place where you can just sit with a coffee, slow down, and savor the moment.

This is exactly what loving where you live means to me. Yes, Hawaii Kai is beautiful, but it’s the places like Moena Café that create connection and community. They remind us to treasure the everyday moments and appreciate the sweetness of life here.

For me, Moena Café is one of those sweet spots that makes living in Hawaii Kai so meaningful. It’s not just a café—it’s a reflection of passion, community, and love for this place we call home.
