Living Foods: Poipu’s New Gourmet Grocery, Cafe, and Restaurant

After months of suspense and uncertainty, the once-beloved South Shore gem Living Foods at the Shops at Kukuiula has reopened under new ownership and management.

The returned Living Foods is a welcome addition to the Poipu shopping and dining scene for the cornucopia it brings to the table. At once an organic, upscale market, onsite cafe, and all-day restaurant, Living Foods offers an assortment of grocery staples, ready-made to-go items, and restaurant and cafe seating to service the varied needs of kama’aina and visitors alike. Whether you’re looking for a coffee on the go, a meal, or something in between, Living Foods is once again an essential South Shore business.

From the website, “Living Foods was founded with the goal of providing everyday healthy food options to the Kauai community, alongside upscale groceries in a fun, casual café and restaurant… bringing guests together around socially conscious products and high-quality ingredients sourced directly from local farmers, ranchers, and artisans.”

The All-Day Menu, served from 11am – 9pm daily, is headed by executive Chef Mark Arriola. After graduating from Colorado Mountain Culinary Institute in 2000, Mark worked at a Zagat top-rated restaurant called Keystone Ranch before returning to Kauai to steward local favorite Merriman’s Fish House in Koloa.

Take a look at the menu below and stop by when you’re South Shore if you’re looking for a bite. My order: Kale, Beets And Blue starter salad (OK King Farms Kale, Charred Beets, Blue Cheese, Local Citrus, Kunana Dairy Chevre, Spiced Macadamia Nuts, Herb Vinaigrette) and Smash Burger (A’akukui Beef, Aged Cheddar, Caramelized Onion, KFF Tomato, House Pickles, Lettuce, Dijonaisse, Sweet Wheat Bun) was excellent.
