When it’s R&R time for the LGBT Military on Oahu, there are some great options!
1. Hula’s Bar & Lei Stand
The crown jewel is world-famous Hula’s Bar and Lei Stand across from Waikiki Beach, with a jaw-dropping view of Diamond Head. Happy Hour starts at 10am and goes to 6pm. Lite beer pitchers only $5 – several tropical drinks as well as pitchers of Bloody Marys, Margaritas, and Mai Tai’s. Great to drop in after sunning on the beach. Welcoming staff and pool table, videos, and great music.
2. Lojax Waikiki
Down on Kuhio is Lojax, soon to be HI-Tide, which is great for sports fans, and regularly shows major sporting events from around the world. Open at noon till 2am.
3. Bacchus Waikiki
A few blocks down, on the corner of Lewers and Kuhio, is the San Francisco-flavored “Bacchus,” with daily specials like $2 beer Tuesday. Any beer from noon to 2am is just two bucks! Wednesdays are 2-for-1 drinks and you get a wooden coin for your second beverage that can be used any day, anytime. This place is a local military favorite.
4. In Between
If you have the pipes and like to sing, you want to go to “In Between,” just a few blocks away from Bucchus. This pub has a very cozy atmosphere where everybody gets to know each other. Great drink specials and thousands of songs to choose from. Open noon to 2am.
5. Kemoo’s River Pub Lanai
For lucky people living in central valley, the best kept secret on the island is Kemoo’s downstairs “River Pub Lanai” across from Schofield Barracks. A stunning view of the river, exuberant bartenders, and a first-class bar menu makes this hard to beat anywhere in the country. Fish and chips are a favorite and comes in an eye popping portion. Full bar, pool table, indoor/outdoor seating, jukebox, and opens at 3pm most days (noon on weekends).
