Hawaii’s Military Population

Did you know that more than 10% of Hawaii’s population is made up of military men and women? That’s right — we have 42,000 active duty men and women who call Hawaii home. Plus, there are 112,000 Veterans and 9,400 National Guardsmen and Reservists. You might also find it interesting to know that our military men and women participate in over 20% of all real estate transactions on Oahu. Yes, our military personnel buy and sell a lot of property. So, it’s important as Realtors that we understand the needs of our men and women in uniform. Very important.

Imagine how hard it is for our military men and women and their families to make a move. Take a look at these statistics:

  • 54% moved in the past 2 years
  • 31% have moved 5+ times
  • 15% have moved 6-8+ times

Wow! That is a lot of moving. And, a lot of stress! Statistically, 80% of PCS (Permanent Change of Duty) moves cause financial hardships. What’s worse, 43% of couples choose to live apart at some point during their military careers.  When you consider the impact frequent moves have on marriage, family, and finances, it’s no wonder that those who serve need special attention and high-quality care and service. They also deserve our thanks.

It’s an honor to serve our military clients. I may not fully understand the stresses that come with military life, but I do understand the stresses that a move entails — especially a military move. I’ve represented hundreds of buyers and sellers over the years, but more importantly, I’m a military mom. And, there is nothing I love to do more than to help our men and women in uniform. So, if you are a veteran and you need information on neighborhoods, schools, rentals, real estate values, VA financing, pets, or more, please know that I have the resources to help you. I also have the heart to help you.

I truly appreciate the unique challenges of making a military move, and I appreciate those who have risked it all to serve our country. Thank you to all those who have sacrificed so much, and thank you for the privilege of serving you!
