Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund Awards $25,000 to Charities Statewide
Four Hawai‘i charities recently received grant funding from the Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund (HLCF). Grants were awarded through the HLCF’s annual grant-giving program called Hawai‘i Love.
Each year, Hawai‘i Life agents and brokers collectively choose a giving focus for the Hawai‘i Life Charitable Fund (HLCF). The HLCF makes grants available through the Hawai‘i Love grant program to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations across the state whose programs align with both our mission and our giving focus for that year.
The HLCF mission is defined as “working to preserve Hawai‘i’s beauty and culture by supporting its people.” Our organization’s giving focus in 2019 is Shelter for Families in Need.
“The four charities were carefully selected by our board members across the state, with the goal supporting nonprofits in keeping with this year’s giving focus,” said Linda Hussey, current Chair of the HLCF’s board of directors. “The giving focus for each year is voted on and determined by Hawai‘i Life agents statewide.”
Each grant recipient received $5,000 to support their services and programming. A grant recipient was chosen on each of Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui and the Big Island. The following charitable nonprofits received grant funds from the HLCF earlier this summer:
- Kaua‘i – Family Life Center
- O‘ahu – RYSE Residential Youth Services & Empowerment
- Maui – Housing and Land Enterprise of Maui, dba Na Hale 0 Maui – A Community Land Trust
- Hawai‘i Island – HOPE Services Hawai‘i
The People’s Choice Award
The People’s Choice Award is our way of sharing aloha with one additional nonprofit that applied for a grant in 2019, under this year’s HLCF giving focus: Shelter for Families in Need.
The additional grant of $5,000 was chosen by our Hawai‘i Life online audience, who voted for their favorite charity from a shortlist of nonprofits who applied for a Hawai‘i Life grant this year, but who did not receive one in our initial board selection process.
Four charities were put forth for the People’s Choice Award, and details of their mission and focus were communicated to friends, followers, volunteers and the charities’ donors on our company webpage, on social media and through emails. Each nonprofits’ community was encouraged to vote for their favorite cause. Family Promise of Hawai‘i was chosen to receive a grant of $5,000 to assist with their mission and services on O‘ahu.
Each year, the HLCF grants funds to eligible nonprofit organizations across the state. We look forward to your interest in our 2020 grant cycle. We will begin accepting grant applications for the next grant cycle from eligible Hawai‘i charitable nonprofits on January 1, 2020. All completed applications must be received by April 1, 2020 for consideration at the Board of Director’s meeting in April, 2020. More details to follow.
