Hawaii Island’s Hamakua Coast: Breath of God

Aloha Dear Friends,

The Hamakua Coast, in my opinion is one of the most beautiful breathtaking scenic drives on our planet. Hamakua means the “Breath of God” in Hawaiian.

Exploring the Hamakua Coast

With the lush tropical Hawaiian backdrop, scattered waterfalls, exotic flowers and rainbows overlooking the deep blue Pacific ocean, you may catch glimpses of whales and dolphins in the distance. Makes this coast a fairy wonderland.

When I first moved to Hawaii eight years ago I lived along the Hamakua Coast and waking up to the Sunrise was truly a blessing. I understood how the “Hamakua” got its name.

The coast is on the East side of Big Island and stretches from  Hilo all the way North to the sacred Waipio Valley. Along the way, there are many entertaining spots to enjoy the lush beauty, from botanical gardens, waterfalls, to fun local coconut and fruit stands. Click here for the best Waterfalls on Big island. My favorite botanical garden and nature reserve is the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden at the 4 mile marker off the scenic route. Make sure you drive slow, roll the windows down and breathe in the beauty. This picture is taken at the entrance of the Botanical gardens.

Now if you are heading South from Honokaa you will flow over three beautiful gulches that are deep valleys filled with Hawaiian streams and tropical landscape.

One of my favorite Gulch to enjoy is the Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park, the perfect picnic spot. I love meditating close to the ocean and listen to the waves crashing over the pebble rocks, allowing my sense of sound to soothe my soul.

A great place to stop along the way and have a smoothie or lunch is What’s Shakin, they are a small farm-to-table Cafe and has fresh fruit from their farm for sale.

The neighborhoods along the coast are very peaceful and mostly farmland with rich soil and abundant rainfall. The Hamakua is known as the wet side of the Big Island and an agricultural haven. Nothing better than falling asleep in the late afternoon during tropical rainfall.

Now after your day of meditating to the sounds of pebbles flowing over rocks to enjoying your energy smoothie to prepare for your Botanical garden hike. Your appetite for soul food will guide you to the best Thai food restaurant in Hilo: Naung Mai restaurant.

I love exploring this coast, I am always discovering new hidden treasures.

Hamakua Haven

I recently listed the “Hamakua Haven31-469 OLD MAMALAHOA HWY along the Hamakua coast — an incredible Multi Residence lychee farm, with over 30 exotic trees for $1,795,000.00. FYI within 2 weeks of my listing going live, I received 3 offers. It amazes me the power of intention and meditation to create and manifest.
