While statistics may show the number of golfers in the U.S. is declining, the golf professionals at Hualalai Resort on Hawai‘i Island’s coveted Kona/Kohala Coast are constantly creating innovative programs to lure newbies onto the two championship courses with a special focus on keiki (children) and Junior Members of the Hualalai Club.
Membership in the Hualalai Club is reserved exclusively for property owners at this internationally acclaimed luxury residential resort and among the many benefits is unlimited golf with no tee times needed on the Member-only Ke ‘olu Golf Course. Four Seasons Resort Hualalai guests have access to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Hualalai Course.
Newly introduced by the pros this summer is “Foot Golf”, which combines soccer and golf skills on the course. Targeted to young players, the program is open to adults as well. Similar programs meant to tantalize those currently not in the game include: night glow golf, night glow putting and the “Happy Hundreds” 9-hole scramble held each Friday for those less interested in competition and more interested in socialization and fun.
Despite the diversity of the golf experience at Hualalai – from challenging tournaments for scratch players to fun play with the Happy Hundreds — many prefer to be spectators of the game (especially during the annual PGA Mitsubishi Electric Champions Tour in January) while indulging in a variety of fitness and recreational opportunities trending now and offered by some of the top trainers in the country.
Coming in August, for example, six-time Ironman World Champion Dave Scott offers his five-day training camp (the fourth provided this year) for those interested in health and fitness, as well as those who aspire to competing in triathlons (or one segment: swim, bike, run). Also set for August, the Hualalai Tennis Club is the place to be when the legendary ATP player Michael Chang leads a multi-day tennis camp with former pro Todd Martin and others.

These special events complement the numerous and diverse year round activities offered at at the award-winning Sports Club & Spa and the Member-only Hualalai Canoe Club – there’s something exciting for the entire family!

One of my current featured listings at Hualalai is centrally located on property, allowing easy access to all Club and Four Seasons Resort Hualalai amenities. Situated lakeside on the 5th green of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Hualalai Golf Course, it offers broad, scenic views of the dramatic lava, natural landscape and mountains (dormant volcanoes) beyond while offering close-up views of golfers passing by from the homes expansive lanai and large grassy lawn. The infinity-edge pool blends seamlessly with the large water feature, providing a tranquil vibe and plenty of privacy.

Perhaps best of all, is the layout of this spacious Ka‘ulu Estate. The great room combines kitchen, living room, dining room, BBQ area and lanai into one living space – perfect for entertaining family and friends. This area also includes two suites with private garden showers. The two additional suites, each with full baths and private garden showers are separate from the main living area, ensuring privacy for all – the homeowners, extended family and friends.
