Exercises, Breathing, and Stress Control

Don’t Let Stress Rule Your Life

Learn how to cope with stress. Although certain moments can be overwhelming, there are ways you can take control over your stress no matter the situation. One of these ways is to use breathing techniques for controlling stress. These techniques are very powerful, and by doing them, you can experience results right away. Even better, they are easy to learn how to do, and you can do them anywhere you experience pressure.

The most important part of breathing is breathing from your diaphragm. That is the lower part of the abdomen. A lot of people make the simple mistake of taking short breaths from their chest, which only uses half of the power of your lungs. Breathing from your diaphragm allows for the maximum amount of oxygen into your lungs.

In taking in more oxygen to your lungs, your body is able to incorporate more oxygen into your blood, your muscles, and your brain. The result is you have less tension, have higher energy, and are generally more focused and calm.

Intentional Breathing for Stress Relief

So how do you do it? First, take a seat and relax. After you have given yourself a few moments, try to correct your posture. Next, stretch out your arms straight in front of you and then bring your hands to your chest. Can you feel your heartbeat? Good. Slightly lower your hands down your torso until they rest on your upper abdominal area. This is your diaphragm.

Understand that breathing is a cycle. It is capturing and releasing the air around you. Begin your breath by inhaling through your nostrils. If you are breathing with your diaphragm, you should be able to feel your hands move significantly. If your chest is moving instead of your diaphragm, you are breathing from your chest. If you have it right, hold your breath for a few seconds.

To complete the cycle, breathe out of your mouth. Do not force the air out fast, but slowly push it away while imagining the stress going with it. The upper portion of your abs should contract. Wait a few seconds before taking the next breath.

This simple technique can do wonders right away.
