Christmas in Hawaii

We all have our favorite holiday traditions and no doubt our favorite Christmas songs. There is just something about the songs we sing and the traditions we hold that bring us together and create a sense of warmth and belonging.

In Hawaii, we have some special holiday tunes that foster feelings of joy and merriment. One such song is Here Comes Santa in a Red Canoe. We may be in the middle of the Pacific, but Santa still manages to find his way to the islands. He ditches his sleigh, though, and arrives by canoe, usually wearing a bright aloha shirt and slippahs.

If you’re looking for a twist on a traditional Christmas song, an island favorite and perhaps one of the most memorable Christmas songs is Numba One Day of Christmas. It’s festive and fun and celebrates “The Twelve Days of Christmas” local-style!

And of course, what would Christmas in the islands without the classic Christmas song, Mele Kalikimaka. It showcases the warmth and beauty of Christmas in the islands with palm trees, sunshine, and the spirit of aloha! It’s a classic and just like the song says, “Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright, the sun to shine all day, and all the start by night.”

Wherever you’re celebrating this special time of year, may the sun shine in your heart and home and may your Christmas be bright!
