One reason I blog regularly about listings that are suitable as horse properties or which have equestrian facilities, is that there is no easy way to search for them online. I mentioned a Hilo property with equestrian facilities in October, and that one is still for sale. One of my colleagues just released an affordable equestrian listing on the east side of the island. And then I blogged about multiple horse-friendly options in equestrian communities back in April, and it is time for an update to that list.
Waimea (Kamuela) Home with Equestrian Facilities For Sale – Not in a Gated Community
Although many prospective buyers looking for a Big Island horse-friendly property would prefer to be in a gated community with shared facilities and/or riding trails, some would prefer to simply purchase a horse property in a rural neighborhood with other horse owners and farms. New to the market is a property that once served as a boarding facility in Waimea (Kamuela) – something that almost does not exist on the Big Island.
This five-acre horse property comes with a 2,047 sq ft, 4 bedroom home, fenced paddocks, and an equestrian dream building with covered arena, 8 stalls, wash stall, offices, and an elevated viewing room to watch training sessions or clinics. The location is close to veterinary services, feed stores, and a short trailer ride to take your horse to competitions and clinics or even polo at Waikii Ranch.
New Listings in Gated Communities: Waikii Ranch, Puakea Bay Ranch, and Puu Lani Ranch
Recall that in my view the “real” Big Island equestrian community is Waikii Ranch. A good 30% of homeowners have horses, there are riding trails throughout and a set of central facilities including arenas, round pen and polo field (it is currently polo season!). I have not yet had the opportunity to personally view the newest Waikii Ranch listing to come to market, an estate home on 20 acres, with a 3-bedroom main home, guest cottage, 2-stall barn, and – as with all Waikii Ranch properties – access to the equestrian trails from your back yard. Asking price is just under $5.2 million MLS 704862.
At Puakea Bay Ranch near Hawi, there are four lots and one home for sale. One of the lots, which I mentioned in my April post, already has an arena and round pen and is listed at a price competitive with undeveloped lots.
And then there is Puu Lani Ranch, where you cannot keep your horses on your own 1-acre-ish property, but you can keep them at the central barn and horse facilities.
One of the best-located homes in Puu Lani Ranch is currently listed for sale. It has southwest facing ocean views, the house being properly oriented for wind-protection when the trades are blowing. The home has been remodeled with high end appliances and finishes and is an elegant choice whether or not you own horses. MLS 706235
If you have specific questions about Big Island horse properties and whether you can find your place in our equestrian communities, I am always happy to consult – or keep an eye out for the perfect fit.
