Answers to 30 Maui Real Estate Questions: The First 30 Days in My Video Series
So far, I’ve answered a bunch of the questions I have been asked over the course of my 22 years in business as a top Maui Realtor. Here are a few of the 30 questions we tackled in the first half of 60 + 60 + 60:
What does my crystal ball say about Maui’s real estate future?
Yes, I really have one, but it doesn’t work. Don’t worry, knowledge and experience DO work, and that’s something I also have! That’s how I’m able to give the best answer when people ask me questions about Maui real estate.
Do I get island fever?
No, I really don’t! But let me ask YOU, how often do you travel more than 45 minutes from your home? Think about it, most people are on an island. It’s just that you might be surrounded by land on your island, while I’m surrounded by a beautiful ocean.
What are the benefits of living in Central Maui or Upcountry?
In addition to the cooler weather, Upcountry Maui is more rural and spacious, and you can get more land than you would for the same price as something in Kihei or Wailea. Then there’s Central Maui. It’s breezier and gets more rain than other parts of Maui. Plus, it’s close to everything.
What can you buy on Maui for under $1 Million?
You can buy a 1 bedroom, 2 bath condo at Maui Sunset for $900,000. It’s right on the ocean. And for $850,000, you can get a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit at Kai Makani Beach Villas (it’s one of my favorites!) across from the beach.
Should you rent or buy Maui property?
I get asked this all the time! And the answer is… maybe! If you’re just trying out the Maui life to see if you love it, then maybe you should rent. If you’ve been vacationing here for a while and you’re ready to explore all that Maui has to offer, then maybe you should buy. I can help you figure out what community is going to work for you.
What’s the deal with agricultural properties on Maui?
Ag property? Cows in a residential area? What’s the deal? Well, in Maui, we do have these small pieces of land often called gentleman farms. On these agriculturally-zoned properties of 10 acres or less, you can actually have a fruit orchard or even livestock.
What is the proper name for flip flops in Hawai’i?
If you want to connect and be part of the Hawai’i lifestyle, we don’t wear flip flops or thongs on Maui, we wear slippas! And when you go to somebody’s house or condo, you always leave your slippas (or other shoes) at the door.
Why move to Maui?
For me, I didn’t like the cold winters in the MidWest. So I moved to Maui, where it’s 82 degrees all year long, give or take a few degrees. There is not a place in the world where you can go and see the beauty found here on Maui. And we live a laid back, low stress lifestyle. In fact the CDC reports that people who live on Maui live 4 years longer than those on the mainland!
What are some Maui hacks for saving money?
Ask for a Kama’aina discount wherever you go and they just might give it to you! And you can’t go wrong with Costco for lunch, dinner, or even gas. You can see hula at the Shops at Wailea. And you can hear great music every fourth Friday night in Kihei.
What are the best beaches on the island?
Did you know there are 80 beaches on Maui?! I shared some of my favorite on Day 7, including Keawakapu in South Maui, Big Beach in Makena, and Ho’okipa, which is amazing for watching windsurfers and seeing turtles. There’s also a secret beach here – Call me and I can tell you how to get there!
