Puako Community Potluck – Saturday, Nov. 12

This Saturday starting at 11a.m. (11.12.11), you’re invited to the Puako Makai Watch Group’s community potluck picnicIt will be held at Paniau, which is on the south end of Puako where water enthusiasts, beach-goers, and residents go to enjoy the amazing marine life. The picnic will be an opportunity to talk story with neighbors and with others who care about the reef.

Waialea Bay (a.k.a. 69’s or Beach 69) is adjacent to Puako and has already benefited from marine conservation efforts. Shown above are friends snorkeling there. They said they saw more marine life here than any other spot during their visit!

Dialogue Will Include

  • Review of fish/reef health studies
  • Turtle tagging programs
  • Coastal clean-ups
  • Educational monitoring programs
  • Fire break
  • Neighborhood watch

What To Bring

  • A food item
  • Beach chairs
  • Beach toys (snorkels, etc.)

And don’t forget to bring your devotion for the ocean!!

Shown above are new and old friends I worked with at one of several “Coastal Cleanup Days.” Jay, (2nd from R) has played in Puako since his childhood days. He and other long time locals and Kama’aina, like Danny, (Kaniela), and Anna Akaka, recall “very good times” when the Ruddle Ohana’s home used to be at Paniau.

The event is sponsored by DLNR, The Nature Conservancy, Puako Community Association, and SKORE.LLC. Isn’t it encouraging to know that the Puako Makai Watch Group and sponsors are working hard to maintain the pristine nature and reefs of Puako? I’ll be there with several of my associates, The Networking Wahines, so I hope to see you, too!

For now, you are encouraged to click on any of the links in this post for more details! Or email Puakomakaiwatch@gmail.com to become involved. If you’d like to get more familiar with life in Puako, my team and I would love to help you!

Mahalo for letting me share my Hawaii life with you! Always my best with aloha…
